WHARE FLAT.

TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —To those who love Whare Flat the creek crossing between M’Quilkan’s old home and Bell’s is one of the most idyllic spots in that beautiful district. Picture my surprise when I arrived there on Sunday afternoon and found that a party of two-legged “ pigs ” had visited the spot. They had feasted on crayfish and left half a dozen or more sheets of paper floating about disfiguring the scene. If any of the party should see this letter I hope they will feel thoroughly ashamed to know that a gentleman had) to come along and clean the litter up after them. Just now the kowhai bloom is at its best, and the song of the tuis and bellbirds is quite enchanting. The hillside at the back of Bell’s is one of the fairest spots that one could visit on God’s beautiful earth. —I am, etc., Septuagenarian. September 24.
