THE CHURCH AND THE POOR.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —How much longer are our parsons going to keep the poor in a state of subjection with the same old story, how it is the will of God that they should go hungry, poor, and depressed? A certain parson, speaking over the wireless to-day, told his audience to put up with their hardships, as it is the way God wishes them to be. It is about time the parsons taught their people different. Why did God give us eyes, legs, brains, and hands to work with if he did not expect us to battle for our rights? Our good parsons often say the Lord’s Prayer, but do they understand it? “ Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” How arc they trying to establish God’s Kingdom on earth, when they are making class distinction on earth by saying some should havo all the pleasures on this earth, while the rest live in poverty? It is about time the churches took a different view of things and learned that the only way to establish God’s Kingdom on earth is to see every man, woman, and child have their equal rights, and to consider human beings first, and consider budgets, war loans, etc., after the purchasing power h placed back in the workors Y hands. Is it natural that men, women, and children should remain in a state of subjection just because some parsons say it is God’s will? Why do not the parsons preach God aS loving and kind, instead of being a great monster, fond of inflicting punishment on this earth which is really caused by our fellow men?—l am, etc., J. MoMielan.
