ROYAL DUNEDIN MALE CHOIR
CONCERT NEXT MONDAY Next Monday the Dunedin Royal Male Choir will hold another concert in the Town Hall. The type of songs chosen include a number of those hearty and robust part songs which display the voices at their best. There are some quiet and lovely gems such as .‘ The Old Woman ’ and ‘ Maureen,’ an Irish cradle song, both 6f these by Sir Hugh Robertson. ‘ Maureen ’ is_ the gift of Miss Gwyn Lane to the society, and provides a solo for Miss Dorothy Mae Kay to the accompaniment of the men’s voices. Luard Selby), ‘Roll the Old Chariot Along ’ (Stuart Young)), ‘ Rolling Down to Rio ’ (German), and the bandits’ song from the opera ‘ Erani ' (Verdi) are all virile choir contributions to the programme. Another vigorous number will be the
cantata by Pointer, ‘ The Song of Harold Harfager,’ the baritone soloist being Mr John Pringle. Another part song offers a second tenor, Mr D. F. Inclis, a solo to a humming accompaniment, 1 Cottage Wee * (Bischritt). The selection of items by the contralto soloist Madame Mona Stone, will be ‘ Mia Ficcirella ’ ( ‘ My Sweet Maiden"), ‘ Gones and Praise of God (Beethoven). Usually the first-named part is sung by a florid mezzo-soprano, but is so well liked that world-famed artists of other voices include it in their repertoire. Madame Stone is said to be decidedly worth hearing as she has a voice of rare quality and range. Mr D. J. Pringle, second tenor, will sing a solo. Two pianists. Misses Marjorie M'Dowell and Ruth Moore,' will present Liszt’s Rhapsody No. 2.’ ’ Mr Oswald Pringle will play a piano solo. ■ Mr Alan Fleming, bass,;will sing ‘Song of the Seal (S'.
