WARRANT FOR ARREST
" COURT MUST NOT BE HUMBUGGED" When the name of John M'Dowall was called in the Police Court this, morning and he failed l to appear Mr Bartholomew directed that a warrant should be issued for his arrest. M'Dowall was to be charged with the theft of a suit, valued at £3, the, property of Walter Leslie Kedzlie. Mr C. J. L. White mentioned that M'Dowall had been remanded from last Wednesday, when he was released on his own recognisance of £25. This morning his sister had spoken to counsel in the corridor outside the court, stating that he was too ill to appear. Mr Bartholomew: This is very unsatisfactory. Chief-detective Young (handing in the accused’s list): I don’t think it is difficult to give the cause of his illMr White: I’m inclined to agree. Mr Bartholomew: The court must not be humbugged. If the accused’s condition is as he says it is, thereshould be a medical certificate before the court. A warrant will bo issued.
