The Upper Junction Committee asked for assistance towards the cost of interior painting and the levelling of the floor. It had received a tender of £6 for levelling.—The architect is to report. The board granted the Brighton Committee’s application for a subsidy for the erection of a shelter fence. The cost of the material will be £lO, and unemployed labour is to be used. The board is to provide £5. ARCHITECT’S RECOMMENDATIONS. It was decided to lay the gravel paths of the teacher’s residence at Patearoa iu concrete, when the work was seasonable, at a cost of £ls. On the architect’s recommendation, it whs decided to repair and top dress the asphalt at the St. Clair residence at a cost of £6. The Architect reported on the additional cost, of improving the grade of the lower playground before resurfacing at the Port Chalmers School. The area was 113 ft long by 66ft wide, and the total fall across the width was 6ft, which worked out at Ift of fall in every lift. To provide a grade of Ift in 33ft would mean that the depth of cut at the top boundary would be 4ft. The proposal would involve expenditure on a concrete wall, galvanised fence removed and re-erected, sewer and storm water drains lifted and relaid, and the whole area resurfaced, the total cost, with asphalt surfacing, being £346 2s; if surfaced in concrete, an additional £BO would be added. In view of cost and position of finance, the architect recommended that the present surface be patched where required and the whole top-dressed with tar and sand at a cost of about £35. It was decided to pay half-cost of topdressing or find one-third of the cost of the original proposal. The Caversham Committee’s request for an additional length of concrete channelling, at an estimated cost of about £l7, was granted. TAPUI SCHOOL REOPENING. The Tapui. Committee asked for the reopening of the school. If the board could not agree they proposed to place the matter before the Minister, Mr Cooper considered that the school should be reopened. The board would not be doing its duty if it did not send a teacher. He moved accordingly. The Chairman ruled that the motion was incompetent. The proper course was to move that the department bo asked for authority to reopen the school. Mr Cooper altered his mqtionjts suggested by the chairman, and it was carried.
