MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The Management Committee of the Otago Football Association met last night, Mr M.; H. Haig presiding. ABSENTEE REFEREES. : The Caversham Club advised that the third and fourth grade matches with the Roslyn-Wakari Club had not been held owing to the failure of the official referees to attend. Mr A. Wyness said he understood that a gentleman had offered his services for one of the games, but RoslynWakari had refused to play. He further stated that the association had been faced with similar instances in other club games this year, and it was to be regretted that clubs did not show a better sporting spirit, as, after- all, the matches were only a game of football. The position was discussed with the president of the Referees’ Club, who made it clear, that the club was doing all in its power to fulfil engagements, but it did not have sufficient members to work on. He stated, for example,, that late on Saturday morning he was informed three members were unable to keep their appointments, and he had done what he could in the time available. It was often possible to arrange for a spectator to lake the whistle, he explained, and asked if it was not possible to expect teams to play when one was available. The Chairman pointed out that, according to the rules, unless both captains agreed to a substitute the game could not be played. Mr H. G. MTnnes (the chairman of the Match Committee) stated that the non-playing of matches considerably upset the draw, and after further discussion it was decided to write to all clubs, with special reference to. junior games, that owing to the shortage of referees clubs be asked to play under a substitute selected on the ground in the event of the official appointed failing to appear. GENERAL. The Fairfield Club submitted as its colours a black shirt with a white band across one shoulder, and black trousers. The colours were approved. The Mornington Club protested against the entrance fee for the five-a-sido tourney being fixed at 2s fid.—The letter was received, the Secretary stating that the association would have to provide a trophy for the winning team. A letter was received from the town clerk stating that schools using the Robin Hood ground for other winter sports had been advised that the ground was reserved for the playing of Association football only.—The Secretary reported that this was not the intention of the association, as no request was made to stop schools from playing other games on the ground, its request being that one afternoon be set aside each week for the Arthur Street School Association football team to practise.— The secretary was instructed to take the matter up with the town clerk, as the association did not desire to bar other school games on the ground.
