Al‘Kenzie)_ of the Referees’ Association wrote stating that the referee, in the Kaikorai-Al* hambra match at Bishopscourt on Saturday reported that he had had considerable trouble through spectators encroaching on the field of play. It was suggested that in future spectators should not be allowed on the inner tonchlines of the two grounds. On the motion of Mr Cavanagh it was decided that,'if'a match likely to draw a crowd was played at Bishopscourt, only one game he played on the ground.' CORNER FLAG POSTS. Mr D. C. Jolly, on behalf of. the Works Committee, submitted some samples of ■ various kinds of corner flag posts for grounds. He said it would cost £4O to install hose-covered posts, and £l2 to provide bamboo posts. He pointed out that some caretakers were in the habit of pushing the posts too far into the ground, and that as a result they would break off when a player fell .against them. Mr Haul) said he thought the committee had already been instructed to secure hose-covered posts. ■ Mr J'olly said it seemed to him to be ridiculous to spend £4O on hose-covered posts. He was trying to do his best for the players and the union. Mr Haub said he did not care what they-did so long as they did something. A surprise motion had not been sprung on the committee, and members had known what they were voting for. Mr A. Grant said it had been found that the corner posts at Tahuna were 14in in the ground. Members remarked that bamboo or hose-covered posts would disappear. Mr A. Haynes said the caretaker at Tahuna. Park was now adopting a sound practice by putting the posts only a few inches into the ground. On the motion of Mr Stuart it was decided to rescind the motion instructing the committee to provide hosecovered posts. Mr Stuart .moved that the ordinary flag posts be retained, and that the Referees’ Association be asked to instruct referees to see that the posts were not put too deeply into the ground. ■ The motion was carried.
