BOXING TITLES
MANY IN DISPUTE Jimmy M'Larnin, Irish-born British Columbian, was the official welterweight champion of the world until Barney Ross, of Chicago, beat him recently to now hold both titles. Both were accepted without dispute, but of the other six divisions not one has a king accepted by all. Jackie Brown, of England, still holds the official fly-weight honour; but he was badly beaten on points by “ Midget ” Wolgast, of U.S.A., in London recently. Title saved by weight stipulations (says the Sydney ‘Referee’). Bantan-weight title: The elongated champion, A 1 Brown, of Panama, is not only in the veteran stage, but not accepted in America and parts of Europe. The official feather-weight title ■ has been declared vacant. “ Kid ” Chocolate, of Cuba, the last man to win the title, is “ through.” Benny Miller, of U.S.A., accepted as best feather-weight, but he hasn’t been crowned.
As already stated, the light-weight and welter-weight divisions are correctly led. The middle-weight title is also not worth bothering about. Marcel Thil, of France, and “ Gorilla ” Jones, of America, both claim the crown. Thil is aged, and hardly recognised even in his own land; and Jones is usually in a state of suspension by some boxing commission or the other.
Maxie Rosenbloom, hero of the New York Ghetto, is on top of a tottering cruiser-weight division; _ and over onehalf of the world believe that Max Baer, of California, is a much better fighter than the official heavy-weight champion du monde, Primo Camera. (They meet on June 14 to settle the question.)
