CURIOUS INCIDENT
BALL LODGES IK BAG A curious incident occurred a day or two ago at a golf tournament in Canterbury, and a case has now been stated, for consideration and ruling by the authorities. With a mixed foursome match in progress a player hit a ball from a bunker into a fellow competitor’s bag lying near the green a few yards away. Disqualification was not called for, as the competitors were not opponents in the strict sense of the term. One of the four players affected contended that the ball should be shaken back into the bunker. This course the owner of the ball would not agree to. Nor did any enthusiasm greet the proposal of one of the ladies.that the bag should be cut open and the hall played from where it lay. Finally is was decided that the ball should be shaken out and played from whatever spot it landed. This done, the players proceeded to hole out. Neither player finished up in a winning position, so the problem in all its phases can be dealt with by the council at leisure.
