WAGES RESTORED
AUCKLAND CITY DECISION 5% ON £250 FROM APRIL I (Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 14. The Auckland City Council decided to-night to restore the salary and wages “ cuts ” to its employees to the extent of 5 per cent, on £250. In making his recommendation the mayor (Air G. W. Hutchison) said that while any opinion regarding the future must be more or less speculative, there was a reason fpr believing that they had now experienced the worst phase of economic malady and the restoring of some of the temporary impositions was justified, “ i regret that complete restoration would not yet be prudent,” added Air Hutchison, “ but I have pleasure in recommending that salaries and wages • cuts ’ be restored to the extent pf 5 per cent, on £250 or part thereof. This will involve the sum of £5,958 on the rating accounts, £1,695 on. the loan account, and £2,170 on the trading accounts —a total of £9,823.” The mayor said the restoration of the cut would be retrospective to April 1.
