(Received June 12, at 11.45 a.m.) Dr Reinhardt (Assistant Minister of Finance) predicted the striking success of the Government’s measure ,to persuade young couples to marry by promising a Joan with which to buy furniture, arid household goods. The demand for Joans lias surpassed all expectations. There have been 200,000 marriages annually above normal, necessitating the building of 200,000 more small houses and flats than hitherto, reducing unemployment by 1,000,000 in lour years, and relieving the annual unemployment relief payment by £40,000,000.
