PIPING COMPETITIONS
JUDGE'S COMMENTS | The judge (Mr Angus Macmillan) commented as follows on the piping events at the recent competitions:— Open Piping.—This was of a very high standard, especially in marches and slow marches, the best man being good enough to compete anywhere. The winner of the most points championship of Otago, Mr Allan Guild, of Blenheim, is an outstanding piper, especially in inarch playing. The of Mr K. Cameron, winner of the New Zealand championship slow marches, was almost faultless. Mr C. Stewart, of Wellington, winner of the second place in slow airs, .should be heard in future both as a pibroch player and march player. Another outstanding march player, Mr C. C. Selby, of Invercargill, the winner of the second place in open marches, put up a great performance in marches. Mr Roderick M'Kenzie, of Mosgiel, winner of the strathspeys and reels event, gave a first-class performance all round. Boys under 16.—The number of good pipers among the boys was very en(coiiraging to the association. Three
boys particularly—Master lan Gold, of Balclutha, Master Bruce M'Kinlay and blaster A. Balloeh—should be good enough to compete among open pipers in a few years’ time.
