[Special to the ' Star.'] AUCKLAND, March 30. Katuscha and Mithra were the only scrntchings for the Great Northern Oaks, leaving a field of seven._ Predict', owing to her good form in classic events this season, was made a hot favourite, carrying nearly half the investments on the machine, while Lucy Rose and Llanore had fair support. Kawainga and Mon Star were the first to show out, and led past the stand from Gold Money, Lucy Rose, Llanore, Prodice, and Te Money. Along the back Mou Star and Kawainga were attended Ly Lucy Rose, Prodice, Gold Money, Llanore, and Te Money. Prodice had taken charge before the top was reached, her nearest attendants being Kawaihga, Gold Money, Llanore, and Te Money, with Lucy Rose and Mon Star last. Prodice was first to turn for home fropi Gold Money, Llanore, To Money, Kawainga, and Lucy Rose.
Prodice had no difficulty in going on to win by four lengths from Gold Money, who beat. Te Money by eight lengths. Kawainga, Llanore, and Mon Star finished as named. • * * * The scratching pen was freely used for tho Northern Champagne Stakes, those dropping out being Ceremony, Coon Song, Hunting Cry, Clever, Dresden Chinn, Dnellona. A hot favourite in Supremacy was beaten* out of a place. Gay Ballerina was second choice, and Eaglet third. When they were let go Polyxena, Eaglet, Supremacy, and Gay Ballerina were quickest to begin, and raced in that order. Polyxena was in the lead crossing tho top from Supremacy, Gay Ballerina, Gemlight, and Eaglet. Polyxerna and Supremacy entered"the straight together, with Gay Ballerina, Eaglet, and Gemlight next. In the run to the judge Gay Ballerina came through to win from Polyxena by two lengths, with Eaglet a neck away third. Supremacy was fourth, and then came Monalof and Gemlight. * * * * The Champagne Stakes race was started four minutes before the schedule time for the barrier to rise. The race programme gave the time of starting at 2.37 p.m., but according to the judge’s sheet the race started at 2.33. The only horse that failed to parade was Boomerday. Kilburn was installed a good favourite, the next in demand being Kawini and Wiltshire. Going to the first fence Clockwork was lending from Kilburn and Odin. Bean Cavalier and Ramblin’ Kid both foil at tho first obstacle. Going past the stands Clockwork had a lead of eight lengths from Odin, Kilburn, and Wiltshire together, and then came Knmelianioha, King’s Guard. Mangani, Glenotus, .Karamu. and Kawini. Along the back Clockwork was twelve lengths clear of Odin and Kilburn, who were still together. Wiltshire was next, and then followed King’s Guard, Kawini, Mangani, Kamehameha, Glenotus, and Karamu. Crossing tho top the order was Clockwork (well out from Kilburn and Odin), with Kawini, Wiltshire, Kamehameha, Mangani, and King’s Guard following. Clockwork’ led into the straight several lengths in front of Kilburn, Kawini. and Odin in that order, Wiltshire, Kamehameha, aim Mangani being in the roar. In a good finish Clockwork won from Kilburn by two lengths, Kawini being five lengths away third. Wiltshire finished fourth, and then came Odin, and in a line Karamu, King’s Guard, Kamehameha, and Mangani. 'The winner paid a big dividend.
For the Easter Handicap tho sera tellings were Branson, Awarerc, and Merry Mint. Vallar was best hacked, while, next in favour was Bright; Glow and Reremoana. Just after the start tho order was Vallar, Kingfield, High Pitch, Flying Juliet, King Lu, and Reremoana, Going along the back Vallar still held command from Kingfield and High Pitch, with Flying Juliet, Reremoana, and King Lu close in attendance, and afterwards came Bright Glow, Mosque, Lorient 11., Royal Boulton, Mcrvctte, and In the Shade. Across the top Vallar led Kingfield and Flying Juliet, Reremoana, High Pitch, Bright Glow, King Lu, and Mervetto into the straight. Vallar still had charge from Kingfield, Reremoana, Bright Glow, Royal Dalton, and White Fang. Bright Glow finished very strongly, and won by half a length from Mervette, who came from a good way hack. Mervette was a neck in front of Kingfield, King Lu was fourth, and then came Flying Juliet, Royal Doulton, White Fang, Mosque Reremoana, High Pitch, Vallar, Lorient 11., In the Shade, and Golden Krist.
