In the meantime the British ConsulGeneral has issued a statement that he is satisfied that I’m Alone w r as within her rights in refusing to halt, and was not violating the twelve-mile limit. (Received March 27, at noon.) The captain of the schooner I’m Alone states that he has been a Canadian citizen since 1899. The negro member of the crew who lost his life is said to he a British subject, although of French origin. CANADA HANDLES PRELIMINARIES. LONDON, March 36. (Received March 27, at noon.) It is understood that the Foreign Office is leaving the preliminary handling of the I’m Alone affair to Canada, with the close co-operation of Sir Esme Howard, since the schooner's crew are Canadians, but in view of the bearing of the matter on the Empire trade routes, Britain will, if necessary, take over the conduct of the later discussions.—Australian Press Association.
