O.R.A. REGATTA

SOME THRILLING FINISHES PORT CHALMERS CLUB’S SUCCESSES The Otago Rowing Association V regatta, held at Dunedin on Saturday, was a successful fixture, the racing being keen, and during the afternoon some close and thrilling finishes were recorded. In tho morning and up till about 3 o’clock in the afternoon the water was rather tricky; but with tho turn of the tide, as was expected, the water became calmer. The-distance lor all events was one mile, with the exception of tho senior fours event, which was rowed over a mile and a-half course. The starting post was off Waverlcy Point, and an imaginary line in the basin was taken as the finish. The first three or four races were run off up to time, but after that time was gradually lost all the afternoon, the regatta finishing much later than was expected. The senior fours, the' finest race of the day, was to have been rowed in bost-ancl-best boats, but it was decided to use clinkers owing to the threatening sea and the logs floating about which bad come down with the Hood waters. North End, not having pair-oared "boats of their own. were thankful for the generosity displayed by the Drive and Port Clubs in lending boats so that the north enders could compete in the pair-oared events.
