TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING Cr J. W. Blair was in tfie chair at the monthly meeting of the -‘•aieii County Council yesterday. There was a full attendance of councillors. CORRESPONDENCE. B. H. Urwin, Otokia, wrote with respect to gorse on roadlines adjoining his property.—Road to he graded where gorse liad been cleared. Messrs N. and E. S. Paterson, surveyors, forwarded on behalf of Sandes and Paterson plan of road exchanges Ocean Beach S.D. for council s consents and approval.—Approved. John Wood wrote regarding diversion of creek running through his sections at Green Island Bush, and asking that it be put back as he had no water for his stock.—Referred to member for riding and inspector, with power to act. The Chief Postmaster, Dunedin, wrote regarding unmetalled portions of Bremner’s and Beehive roads; the rural delivery of mails was worked under difficulties by reason of those clay portions of formation. —The council had already allocated for this work, and would attend to it as soon as possible.
The clerk, Taiori River Trust, notified that a deputation would wait on the council regarding joint liability for maintenance of culverts and bridges on drains over country roads.—Messrs Sadd (chairman) and Gibson (clerk) formed the deputation, and after discussion it was agreed that the inspectors of their respective bodies formulate a report for next meeting. The hon. secretary, Outran! Plunket Society, asked for a donation to the society funds as formerly.—The sura of £5 was voted. C. Robinson, LarabhiU, wrote regarding Three O’clock track and road leading to Christmas Creek siding.—■ Road to be attended to.
Stanley M'Coll wrote resigning his position as surfaceman in Deep Stream Riding as from the 15th inst.—Accepted, member and inspector to fill v acancy. REPORTS. The sanitary inspector reported that the various slaughter houses in the county were in a clean condition; likewise the boiling-down works at Burnside and the piggeries at Green Island Bush. He had received a complaint about pollution of the Silverstream, and had taken samples of the deposit there with a view to having same analysed.—Received. The ranger reported that the county roads were fairly clear of stray stock. Ho detailed the building permits granted during the month.—Received. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the past month had been £3,358 16s, and recommended the payment of accounts totalling £1,747 Os lid.—Adopted. GENERAL. Cr Ca mi thews mentioned the necessity of having a parking place for cars at Middleniareh. He suggested an arrangement with the police and the county’s motor inspector.—The suggestion was approved. Cr Doherty mentioned the metalling of Hindon Railway road. It needed grading.—lnspector to attend to. The inspector was instructed to look into a damaged culvert at Harvey’s Flat. . Cr Kempshell asked that B Drain road ha graded when grader was in district.—lnspector to attend to the matter.
