D.J.C. FINE WEATHER AND LARGE CROWD AT WINGATUI For tho second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Summer Meeting the weather was warm. A westerly wind' tempered the heat. There was again a good ciowd, with many visitors present. The coarse was in excellent order. Results:— MILBURN HURDLE HANDICAP, 175sovs, second 25, third 10. 1-Jm. 1— Messrs W. H. and C. L. Orbell’s RANGATAHI (Monoform— Firearm mare), aged, 10.8 (D. ' O’Connor) 1 3—Mr F. J. Hales’s Gaoraa, 9.11 (A. S. Ellis) ... ... 2 2Mr W. J. Kelly’s Tunamoe, 10.10 (A. A. Youngman) 3 Others;.4 Corinthia 10.12 (H. A. Anderton), 7 Guncase 9.8 (J. T. Humphris), 5 Umtali 9.0 (Roscwarne), 6 Jovial 9.0 (L. Hunt). From a good start Gayoma and Jovial hit the front, and at the stand fence they wen six lengths in front of Umtali and Tunamoe. Going to the hurdle at the mile post Jovial opened out a two-lengths’ load from Raugatahi, who was improving lilp position all the time, and Gayoma. Carinthia was running last. Once into the hack stretch, Jovial opened out a four-lengths’ lead from Raugatahi, with Gayoma two lengths back, Tunamoe and Uintah close up. Jovial made a bad jump at tin} far turn, and Raugatahi took charge. He was four lengths in front of Gayoma and Umtali round the bend and landed over the straight entrance hurdle with a three-lengths’ load from Gayoma and Tunamoe. In the run homo Raugatahi won fairly comfortably by two lengths from Gayoma who jumped rather widely, with Tunamoe half a length away. Guncase finished fast in fourth place, Carinthia next. The field raced in close order for over a furlong, at the end of which Apache showed out from Kilmoyler and Equerry, with Vaward moving up. Racing to the far turn, Apache was in charge from Vaward, with Kilmoyler and Equerry next. Twp and a-half furlongs from home Vaward'. fell, leaving Apache in front of Kilmoyler. Lucy Locket was still running last. Apache was one and a-half lengths in front of Kilmoyler at the top of the straight, where Lncy Locket had to go on the outside of Equerry ami Taboo to get through. Kilmoyler tackled Apache at the distance, and in a hardfought finish, managed to get his nose in front. • Lucy Locket was a poor third, five lengths away, with Equerry another six lengths off. A poor start, Lady M'Kenna, and Arrowy being Jolt several lengths. Salmo Salar and Phastar were the quickest out, followed by Sarnia ami Rotorex. At the mile post All Comment ami Page Roy were just clear of Salmo Salar, and Phastar, with Rotorcs and Sarnia next. Going into the hack Pago Hoy was a length clear of All Comment, Sarnia (pulling hard), and Salmo Salar. J hissing the six furlongs [lost, Phastar ran up to Page Boy, and this pair were two lengths in front of All Comment, Salmo Salar, wjtli Sarnia next. A the far 'turn Phastar was half a length in front of Pago Boy. Sarnia, Salmo Salar, and Rotorex were running close up, with Tardy at the head of the following division. Halfway up the hill .Phastar was still in charge, and held the lead into the straight" j.nst clear of Sarnia and Page-Boy. At the distance Tardy appeared on tho. scene with a good run, and in a fine race home won by a short two lengths from Pago Boy, with Rhastar a short length away. Then came Lady MTvcnna, Salmo Salar, and Sarnia together. Time, 2min 10 4-Gsoe. The throe placed horses belong to C. Geiseler’s stables at Wingatui. AUCKLAND TROTS FIRST DAY Tho track was .heavy, at Epsom for the opening of . tho Auckland Trotting Club’s three days’ meeting.
