D.J.C. MEETING Considering tho number of meetings to bo held in tlio south during tho next ten days, the acceptances received by tlio Dunedin Jockey Club for tho first day of its Summer Meeting must be considered quite satisfactory. As the course is in splendid order and most ol the horses engaged have form to guide backers, the racing should bo good and the meeting one oi the best ol tho holiday fixtures. Caretaker Craw lord has been busy getting ready for the meeting, and 1m has Wingatui looking at its best. Work this morning was done on'the plough and outside of the course proper, tho trestles being placed well out. Equerry, Pink Note, and lloyal Saxon covered a mile on the plough iu lin in 40 J-osec. Both Pink Note and Royal Saxoimare particularly well just now, and each must run a good race in tho Otago Handicap next Wednesday.
Rotor ami Sarnia ran seven Inrlongs on the grass in Jin in 36 3-oscc. The former will not bo a starter at tho Dunedin meeting, and is to be reserved for tho Wyndham and Invercargill Gup races.
Arrowy moved very freely over seven furlongs’ on the grass in Imin 37sce. The first time this horse has an experienced horseman up ho will be hard to heat.
Blue Metal and Ncdda were companions over half a mile run in 57 3-uscc, juul moved very attractively. Jovial and Umtali were schooled over four flights of hurdles and had plenty of pace on. Camisader and Page Boy ran sis furlongs on the plough in Imin 24scc. The former looks well enough to catch a race at the meeting. Pbastcr and Tardy took Imin oSj-sce to cover seven furlongs on the grass. Kilmoycr and another ran live furlongs in Imin tisec. Booster and Black Duke ran over half a mile together, and the former hicks well forward'on the work ho has done. Set Sail and Lucy Locket were sent seven furlongs on tho plough together, Set Sail having slightly the better of the finish, the journey taking Imin Jlisec. A number of others worked from half to three-quarter pace, ELLERSLIE TRACK NOTES (.SrnciAL to tub * Star.’] AUCKLAND, December 22. Tim weather was lino and tho going good at Ellerslic, and a largo number of horses worked on the course proper. Three trestles were out. Aussie gave Just Nell a start and a heating over five furlongs iu Imin Bsce, going comfortably. Consent’s six furlongs in Imin 17 I-usee was the host of tho morning. Corinax, Papatn, Hoy lake, and Goshawk finished in that order over ton furlongs in 2min II 3-5 sec.
Count Cavoni was belter than Mask, round in 2min I I-osce. Laughing Prince easily heat Transformer over ten furlongs in 2miu fusee, the last round in 2min 4 3-oscc. Gold Tinge heat Royal Flower and Kinross over six furlongs in fmiii 20 2-sscc.
