RESTORING CONFIDENCE
UNITED'S MISSION [l’ek United I’kess Association.} DANNEVIRKE, December 15. Speaking at a civic reception tendered him to-day in respect to his elevation to Ministerial rank,' the Hon. K A. Hansom (Minister of Public Works) said that the new Cabinet was looking forward to having an opportunity of again placing New Zealand in the forefront by enacting beneficient legislation and making tho dominion an object lesson to other parts of the Empire as in the past. While he was convinced there were ample funds in the country at the present time, he was satisfied that there had been a lack of confidence among those handling largo commercial and financial concerns who had been afraid of placing fresh moneys in circulation, if the new Government could restore confidence in their financial institutions, and if an outlet were found for new work of a profitable nature, much of tho stress would be overcome and the dominion would be on the fair way to progress once again. , As Minister of Public Works ho liaa to deal with the great question of unemployment, and it was oib of the serious problems which had to be crannied with. Ho was having investigations made with a view of having certain lands brought into use, which, with a certain amount of development, would eventually be brought into profitable occupation. These lands could absorb some of the men who were at present unemployed, and this would go a long wav towards the i alleviation of the position. Eventually he hoped to permanently remedy a serious difficulty. .
