The Wellington Amateur Swimming Centre conducted a carnival at the Lower Hutt baths to-night, when several provincial championships were decided In an attempt to lower his record of 69 l-ssec for the 100yds B. Gallate, the New Zealand 100yds and 220yds junior fresh-water record-holder, succeeded in cutting off a second. The results of the important events are as follow: 100 Yards Provincial Championship. —W. Cameron 1, C. Glaridge 2, L. Leask 3. Time, 61sec. Won by a foot. 220 Yards Breast-stroke Provincial Championship.—W, Cameron 1, RSpray 2, A. Hepburn 3. Time, 3min 31sec. AVon by 2yds. 440 Yards Championship.—C, Claridge 1, Pelham 2, Blakeley 3. Time, 6min 1 2-ssec. Claridgo led all the way, and won by 16yds.

AUCKLAND, March 2

A meeting of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swim ming Association was held last evening to consider financial assistance lor the New" Zealand swimmers competing at the Olympic Games. It was decided to hold a carnival for the purpose, and the secretary was instructed to wire the New Zealand Council asking it not to grant any extension of the itinerary of tho lady swimmers in Australia, as it was essential they should be in Auckland to assist the Olympic fund.
