GAPS IK THE SYSTEM [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 23. At the opening of the Primary School Inspectors’ Confcience this morning Mr Wright (Minister of Education! said they wero bringing the syllabus into lino with modern ideas, giving a balanced ration in education, and ho hoped tho conference would result in new ideas. Mr Strong (Director of Education! staled that it had been suggested that there was a marked gap between the primary and secondary courses, and that tho primary system should be remodelled. Others .suggested that a gap existed due, to the sixth standard pupils being taught by the best teachers of tho primary schools, and then by junior teachers during the first year at a secondary school. There wero likely to be divergent opinions' on tho matter. Character forming must be the first aim. but at the same time we must not ignore tho need for well-informed citizens.
