A BUILDER MISSING
CASE OF BANKRUPTCY Where to find Charles N. Rhodes, bankrupt builder, formerly of Chancellor street and Waipnpakauri, is the cpicstion facing his creditors (states the ‘Press’). Until recently Rhodes was building in the north, and he was adjudged bankrupt. His debts total £9OO. Explaining to a creditors’ meeting at Auckland all he knew of the case, the Official Assignee (Mr G. N. Morris) said the bankruptcy was originally to have been handled by the district Official Assignee at Whangarei, On learning that the bankrupt was not to be found, the northern official had asked Mr Morris to take over the administration of the estate and, if possible, to bring the missing man to book. Inquiries revealed that Rhodes had left his city offices. An address at Mount Eden which was investigated by the police revealed no bankrupt. Mr Morris said that the meeting had been called primarily to consider the question of searching for the bankrupt. Ho also asked for a resolution, authorising the, payment of certain lien moneys in respect of Rhodes’s last building contract at Waipnpakauri. Mr Morris informed creditors, that the only asset he had in hand was a. property at Takapnna. worth £2lO, but encumbered to the extent of £197. He asked creditors’ permission to dispose of this by private treaty. The last two resolutions were agreed to without comment.
“Bankrupt lias failed to take any notice of instructions issued by _ the Supremo Court, and is therefore liable for contempt of court,” said tho Assignee. “Wc have nothing criminal against him as yet,” ho continued. The assignee pointed out that the cost of a search for the bankrupt would only be about £5; the three largest ■creditors could meet this pro rata. It was not proposed to prosecute the search outside New Zealand. Such a course would involve an outlay of £4O. The Assignee’s proposal was carried without dissent.
