ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
CROSSING TRAGEDY—SECOND VICTIM DEAD. Herbert Wilnior Eyes, the second victim of yesterday’s level crossing accident near Levin, died in hospital this morning. Mrs Eyes was killed instantaneously. The crossing, where the tragedy ocenred is a particularly dangerous one, tho road approaching the, line from the east, turning to tho right, and running parallel with the line for eight chains, then turning sharply across il. The railway track comes on a down grade from the south to the crossing. Mr and Mrs Eyes were engaged in delivering bread. The train struck their van fairly in the middle, completely wrecking it and scattering fragments to a distance of four chains past the crossing. Mr Eyes was until recently farming near Levin. They leave a family of three young children.—Levin Association message. SHUNTER KILLED. H. Grns, n young married man, a shunter, was knocked down by a truck in the Lyttelton yards last _ evening. The truck passed over both his thighs. He was taken to the hospital, where he died at 11 .BO last night. FALL INTO SHIP’S HOLD. While going down a ladder into the hold of the overseas steamer City of Bath last evening Henry Healy. , a wharf laborer, residing at 193 Leith street, fell and received injuries which necessitated bis removal te the Dunedin Hospital. He was admitted at 7.45.
