NORTH-EAST HARBOR NOTES

Interest is being maintained by the members of the reccntly-iormed rowing club. The crew has been spending many evenings training, and as a. result is improving greatly in form. A meeting was held last Monday for the purpose of drafting rules. Present were Messrs W. Robertson (chairman), J. Niven, W. Timms, L. Clarke, L. Ilellyer, H. Hordeu, and A. Timms (secretary). Another set of oars is needed, and with the object of procuring these the committee decided to hold a. social and dance on Saturday, 1 the 18th hist. A number of local boats sailed over to St. Leonards to attend the regatta, some with visitors on an outing, while others took part in the events. Ut tho latter Mavis, sailed by H. Riddell, in the race for yachts 18ft and under secured lirst place, with Agnes (J. Hook) second, while Colleen (C. MolJer) was successful in fho 1-lt Gin and under class, flic Silvocca finishing third in the motor boat event. Judging by tho attendance, the result of a dance staged by the Maoris in tho_ hall last Saturday must he gratifying to the promoters, and the funds"of ihe Otakou Tennis Club will benefit accordingly. East’s Orchestra had charge of the music, Messrs Riddell, Harhrow, and Brown giving the extra pieces. The facilities offered to bathers at Cosy Dell and Dublin Bay have seldom before been in such demand as during tho last few weeks, the cooling and refreshing effect of a bathe in sate waters calling many at all hours. Tho yacht race for the Strang Cup, which 'was set down for decision on Monday night, had to ho postponed on account of a dead calm.
