POLICE COURT
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) METHYLATED SPIRIT DRINKER. An elderly man named William Neilson Mackie, who was obviously in a very shaky state, pleaded guilty to having been found drunk in Woodliaugh Gardens. Sergeant Turner: The man is in a very bad condition, your Worship; he is a methylated spirit drinker, and has already been at Roto Roa three times, and wants to bo sent there again. Defendant: I’d like to go there now and again so that I can pull myself together. Mackie was remanded for a week for medical treatment to enable the gaol surgeon to examine him and determine whether he was a suitable subject for Roto Roa. MAINTENANCE. William Johnson Rao did not appear to answer a charge of disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears upon which were stated at £2B 10s. Mr C. M. Barnett, for the complainant, said the man never paid unless compelled. Defendant was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, tho warrant to bo suspended so long as he paid £1 a week—lss on the current order and os off the arrears.
