Previously all submarine ratings had been volunteers. For the submarine branch officers and ni«n must be of perfect health and physique, and “ not addicted to an excessive use of alcohol." Another addition is an order which turns seamen into potential airmen. This lays down that all naval men are required to fly if ordered to do so, as flying now comes within lho‘ routine duties of the Navy.
