TIMARU-CHRISTCHURCH ROAD RACE
102 STARTERS [Per Usited Press Association.] TIMARU, September 10. Last evening rain commenced to tail, and continued intermittently throughout the night, but it was not heavy at any time, and it is considered that it will not seriously affect the Timaru to Christchurch road race. The morning broke bright, the rain having cleared, and the race started under ideal conditions. ■ , ~ , Of the 11(5 entrants, 102 laced the starter in the presence of two thousand spectators. The first batch of thirteen got off punctually at 9.10, the second of seven at 9.15, and the third ot four at 9.16. ' A cyclist who came through tins morning stated that the roads from Timaru to Rakia are in excellent condition, hut from the latter to Dunsandel the going may prove trouble- j some. LIMIT MEN AHEAD. [Per United Press Association.] ASHBURTON, September 10. The limit men were well ahead of the hack-markers passing here. Fifty' of the 102 starters went through at 12.24, and at 12-4,) the scratch men, Watson and Austin, passed through, having lost a minute j on the sixteen-minute men and haying trained twenty-two minutes on the limit men.
