A Press Association message received from Auckland announces that Chief Detective Mansack has been appointed subinspector at Palmerston North, and that i Detective-sergeant MacMahon has been appointed to the position of the chief deteo five. The death is announced of Mr Patrick Flanagan, who died at hie residence, East Gore, yesterday. Mr Flanagan was an oki resident of Gore, wjiere he lived for som* 30 years. Up to within a few years of the carrying of No-license he was a hotelkeeper, and was well known and respected, both uf the town and throughout the district. Hi leaves a wife and family. Cabled from London that Madame KirkbJ Lunn and concert party (who are undel engagement to the Messrs Tait) sailed by the Maliva. Madame Lunn is a prime favoritt artust with Covent Garden and Metropolitan Opera-house (New York) audiences. At the annualj meeting of St. Stephen's Church, held last evening, Mr Charles firace (the newly-appointed choirmaster) was presented by the committee of managers with a set of silver-mounted carvers. Miss Lucy M'lntyre was presented with a silver-backed minor as a small token cf appreciation of her services as organic* during the year.
