NOVEL SOCIETY DANCE.

A novel society dinner party, followed byt a dance, was given at the Hitz Hotel recently by Mrs Joim Gordon, iu honor of the Grand Duke Michael and Gouateas Tor by. The orchestra were concealed in an artificial river. The river was edged with irise*, and close by fountains were at play. (Jne of the many surprises occurred at midnight, when a gorgeous chariot of golden flowers was drawn into 'be room and wheeled round the circle of guests. Suddenly Mine Pavlova, the ianioiw dancer, sprang lightly out of the chariot, and she afterwards gave various dances with her own wondenul and incomparable grace. In compliment to the guests of the evening Russian colors prevailed in the decorations. Absolutely black flowers cannot be obtained, but a good (substitute was found in the giant bulrush, while the second color Wiis provided by a great profusion of golden irises. There -was also a new variety of arum lily of a- deep ye'knv thade, with a long black pistil. These flowers were massed in every corner of the hall room, corridor, and staircase. The first dance of the >.>vening was led by Lord Vivian and Miss Kveiyn brnV-n, the eighteen-year»dd daughter of the hostess. Many novel notions for cotillons were introduced, and in the different figures appeared some of the best dancers in (Society. . Many beautiful prizes were given for the cotillons, some of them antique Ut.f., parasols of mc-dish shaje, and other elegant gilts.
