NEW HALL AT MOSGIEL.
OPENED THIS AFTERNOON. BY MR H. H. INGLIS, MAYOR. Mosgiel is now happy in the possession of a fine modern hall, known as the Coronation Hall. It was officially opened this afternoon bv Mr H. H. Inglis, the Mayor. Mi E. Chirk, M.P., was to have attended, but could not manage to. The new hall stands on a quarter-acre site midwav from the railway station and the centre 'of the town. Mr J. Lindsay, of Green Tslnr.d, was the builder, the contract price being £2,890. The site cost £2OO. Ther° is a further expenditure of between £3OO and £3OO for furnishings, contingencies He. The money was raised h\~ a loan of £3.000, the Government grant of £250. a contribution of £250 from the district fund, and £IOO donated by Mr ivimuel Young. It is generally conceded that Mr E. V,". WaHim, the architect, has planned a pood looking sir.d a building, :md Ihat Mr Lindsay has turned out a good job. In the front ".here Is the public library. 21ft x Si ft: the reading room, 21ft x 17^ft; the public offices, Ijßft, x lift: and the clerk's room, 19ft x 94ft, with a strong loom. The Council Chamber measures 27J[ft x 21ft. and the committee room 21ft x 19ft. Behind then© is tho hall. 64ft x 50ft, se.'it'vl at present for 620 persons, ■ nd so built as to carry a gallery later r.ii. A modern stupe is provided, this being 50ft x 17JR-, and there are two spacious ante-rooms. Above is the caretaker's residence. The structure is of biick. A portico adds much to the appearance of the building.
