CITY COUNCIL.
There was a full attendance of Councillors this afternoon. Up toffour o'clock very little business of importance had been transacted. By nine to three it was decided to grant the application of Mr Bennett, agent for the All England Eleven, to erect a grand stand and refreshment booths on the Oval for the matches. The Sanitary Committee recommended the payment of a bonus of L2OO to Dr Gillies in recognition of his services as Health Officer, ■jßdreported that the inquiry into the charge agHinst the Fever Hospital authorities was not concluded. The Legislative Committee recommended the passing of a bye-law prohibititing smoking in licensed cabs, &c. ——^—
