THE VOLUNTEERS.

Arrangements—particulars of which will shortly he announced—have been made with the railway authorities for the conveyance of Volunteers on the 9th proximo to Waihola by special train. At a meeting of the City Guards, held last evening, it was decided that the first match for a representative team in the contest for the Ladies' Snield, fired last Saturday, should be declared n»U and void, owing to errors in the scoring, caused by twj of the discs being so much alike as to make it impossible to tell one from the other. It was also decided that the team be the five highest aggregate scorers in three matches out of the remaining four; scores in any of the three matches to count. The Company accordingly met at the North Dunedin range this morning, twenty-one men competing} but Vol. Provo, who headed the list on the farmer occasion, did not put in an appearance. The position was: standing at 200 yds, any at 500 and 600 yds; new Wimbledon target. The weather was very dull for the first hour, but exceedingly bright afterwards. The aiming was dead on, but very low. Subjoined are the scores of the ten highest :
