At this afternoon's sitting of the City Council, Cr. Walter draw nttention to an article which appeared in the • Daily Times* of the 18th inst., in which the Corporation was spoken of as a most unscrupulous body; Inspector Nimon tendered his resignation; and Mr Massey was instructed to proceed to Wellington to-morrow, to watch over and facilitate the progress of the Dunedin Municipal Corporation Bi.l. The Deserves Committee recommended that a twenty-one years' lease of the allotment being parts of sections 23 and 24. block 1, "Wharves and Quays Deserve, be granted to the Sailors' Home at an annual rental of L 25, the lease to contain the usual provisions as to valuation; possession to be given as soon as present tenant shall be ejected. That the application of the Loyal Unity Lodge for a lense of portion of the old manure depot section as a site for a hall be declined, and that the section be subdivided in 4x 2$ acre lots, and b9 let by auction, reserving the right at any time to plant trees on any portion thereoi, the City Surveyor to prepare a plan of tho subdivision. A reply has been ordered to Mr J. B. Bradshaw that the Council is not at present in a position legally to establish public abattoirs, pend- , "Jf? the coming into operation of the new Municipal Bill. _ The committee has had under careful consideration the question of the terms of the Corporation property north of Police street, and trusts to be able to report finally at next meeting. The Water Supply Committee reported that a special committee meeting would be hold on Monday to consider the advisability of using the Water of Leith for an extended water supply. In future all water for lifts sre to be charged through metre at the rate of 2s per 1.000 gallons, iu addition to tho rent of the meter. The committee recommended that the salary of the reservoir-keeper pe increased to L 126 per annum.
