Tuesday, August 29. (Before T. A. Mansford, Esq., R.M.) Assault.—John M'Dermid was charged with assaulting Charles Johnson, at Sawyer's Bay, on the 24th instant. Pleaded guilty, and stated he had been forced to strike the plaintiff in consequence of his brutal treatment of a horse.—His Worship fined the de fendant 5s and costs. Cruelty to Animals.—Charles Johnson was charged with brutally beating a horse, the property of John M'Dermid, on the 24th instant, and at the same time using threatening language.—Mr ©utten defended.—After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate stated the charge had been fully proved, and to mark his sense of the brutal conduct of Johnson fined him 40s and costs. CIVIL CASK. Wm. Kettle v. S. Spinks.—Lso, amount of a dishonored bill of exchange. Judgment was given for the plaintiff with coats.
