THE POULTRY ASSOCIATION.

To the Editor. Sir, There are one or two remarks in the letter of “ One of Them,” in last night’s Star, which require comment, and I wul at once proceed to their consideration. Wright’s Poultry Book, almost in every case, includes Tegetmeir’s points, with certain additions thereto—is in fact a revision of the work, with improvements added. Now, suppose some exhibits, which would show well according to Tegetmeir, were sent from here—say to Christchurch, where. Wright is used—would they not be wanting in some point which would place them at a disadvantage with birds bred in the latter place ? If this be so I -do net see how my former statement is ‘ ‘ without foundation. ” Your correspondent mentions instances of gentlemen who have imported birds from Victoria since the last show. I would ask him has not Wright’s book been in use there for the last four or five years ? Are we to believe that birds costing nearly L 7 10 per pair are other than those bred up to the highest standard ? I think not; therefore I fail to see how the. adoption of a higher standard of excellence has caused all the trouble and expense incurred to be “thrown away.” In conclusion, I may say that such change of standard was made at the annual meeting of members of the Association. “ One of them,” and his numerous friends, should have attended the meeting and have endeavored to prevent the infliction of what they evidently consider a hardship, but which, I am convinced, will prove quite the contrary. —lam,&c,, C. Dunedin, July 29.
