Tuesday, June 27. (Before T. A. Hansford, Esq., R.M.)

Dbunkknnxss. Alexander Lyle was charged with being drunk and using indecent language in a railway carriage. After hearing the evidence of Constable Livingstone, Mr Bolfe (Station master), and Arthur Dean (ported), the Magistrate ordered the accused to .pay a fine of 20s; in default fortyeight hours’ imprisonment. Assault. — Peter Hanson was charged with assaulting John Hudson at the Maori Eaik, and pleaded not guilty. Mr Joyce appeared for the complainant.—After hearing' the evidence of, complainant and a witness named Green, his Worship dismissed the case.

Rennier v. The Police. -Hie Worship delivered judgment in this adjourned case, saying he had carefully gone over his notes, and was satisfied that the plaintiff’s state ment was not to be relied upon. He based this opinion on the straightfohvard manner in which Constable Murphy gave his evidence. His example was worthy of imitation, and under all the circumstances, the Bench had decided to dismiss the case with costs, professional and otherwise. His Worship added that the Commissioner of Police had also held a searching investigation into the case, and his opinion tallied with that of the Bench. CIVIL CASK. William Weaver v.
