PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held last evening. Present— The Mayor, Crs, M'Kinlay, M‘Gregor, Reid, Menelaus, Middleditch, Asher, Dodson, and Miller.
The Town Clerk -read the following correspondence From Messrs William Thomson and Andrew Cameron, asking the Corporation to appoint arbitrators and fix date of arbitration for compensation in connection with their claims for water-rights. On the motion of Cr. Asher it was resolved that at the close of the meeting the Council go into committee in reference to the application. From Messrs Bright Brothers, and Co., Dunedin, asking for a declaration under seal, in order to enable them to import waterworks plant per ship Orpheus free of duty. Or. Asher’s proposition that the clerk be instructed to make the necessary declaration and affix the seal, was carried.'-From Mr Commissioner Guiseppe, to prospect for a new quarry, and to lease 200 yards at a rental of LlO per annum. Refused.—From Mr J. C. Harris, a claim of Lll Os 6d for reimbursement pf expenses incurred through injuries received by falling over metal left on footpath in front pf Custom House. After a. considerable and warm discussion, in which Crs.
