THE MILTON POTTERY WORKS.

To the Editor.

Sis, —ln your issue of last night I observed a paragraph in which you draw attention to the reorganisation of the Milton Pottery Works, and pointing out the desirability of supporting and developing such enterprises, and I have no doubt but that the company would receive’the support which their wellmerited scheme deserves if the crockery warehousemen would only keep a supply of these locally manufactured articles. 1 fear, however, that our shopkeepers have no sympathy with these local industries, and prefer to offer for sale imported goods. We have in the Province two woollen manufactories, both of them turning out goods of a much more durable quality than auy that can be imported, and yet on inquiry I find it to be the case that in some of our leading drapery establishments they do not keep in stock the goods manufactured at the Kaikorai and Mosgiel. So long as the public do not manifest their disapprobation of such a want of patriotism by withdrawing their custom from all shops where these goods are not kept there will exist no encouragement for the establishment of manufactories in the Colony. By the advocacy of your able pen you might do service to our local industries.—l am, &c., A Housewife, Dunedin, May 6.
