SNOBBY’S LETTER.
To the Editor.
Sir,— The letter headed, “Who is Tewsley ?” and signed “ Snobby,” which appeared in your last issue, created quite a furore in the locality where I reside; in fact, lam given to understand that many of my friends, and those of the cornjr autocrat, manifest an unusual amount of interests in Snobby’s very learned quotations. Such being the case, and fearing lest these good people should really be impressed with the idea that the proverb originated, as asserted, by Snobby, and always upholding the good maxim, “Give honor where it is due,” I must claim its origin to be altogether German. Schuster (pronounced sbooster) bleib bei deinen Leisten, Anglice, Snob, stick to your last, is the proverb—a full illustration of which, with your kind permission Mr Editor, I shall give in another letter. Meanwhile, I remain, in haste, your Schneider. Dunedin, May 8.
