Auckland, May 6. ■ Herald states that the Premier has been in communication with Mr O’Rorke, and offered to put him in nomination for the Chairmanship of Committees, to which Mr O’Rorke has consented.

Grahamstown, May 8. A fire occurred last night under suspicious circumstances at the Court House Hotel, which is at present unoccupied. It was extinguished promptly. The house was insured in the Norwich Union for L3OO.

New Plymouth, April 27. The three Commissioners are here, and leave by the Hawea to-morrow.

main one being that they had no legal standing. He also addressed a letter to the Provincial Auditor, 'pointing out his legal powers and instructing him not to give any information other than that which the law compelled.

Incendiarism has been at work here, and two fires occurred yesterday, one on Mr Murdoch’s (R.M.) farm, where two large stacks were destroyed; the other on Mr Galbraith’s, who has lost 100 bushels of oats, which were placed in a house used as barn, dairy, &c., together with a number of miscellaneous articles. The house was insured, but not the grain; and he estimates his loss at over LIOO.
