WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day; present, the Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs Strode, Clark, Reid, Bastings, and Butterworth. Amongst other business the following was transacted : Mr James Kennedy applied for a lease of land at Long Ridge, Happy Valley, forthepurpose of wonting a lignite seam there. Sketch of position required before Board can deal with the case. Messrs Macassey and Kettle, on behalf of Dr Manning, applied to be allowed to purchase about 100 acres of bush reserve adjoining sections 31 and 32, block 1, Waipa district, to complete his property. To be sold by public auction under the 88th section of the Act, having been so long withheld from sale. Upset price 30s per acre. Mr James Tome’s application for a pastoral lease of Rabbit Island, Lake Wanaka, containing about 300 acres, was refused. Mr P. W. M‘Donald requested information as to whether the Board would grant a pastoral lease of Codfish Island, and for what term and amount of rent. Already leased by General Government; does not come under the jurisdiction of the Board. The Board reconsidered the opinion of the Provincial Solicitor on the application of Messrs Macassey and Kettle, on behalf of Messrs Sutton Brothers, and bich Glencair, and M'Kenzie requesting the Board to assign the Northern portion of fun 362, on the original lease without issuing a fresh lease for the part transferred. Lease to be cancelled and two new leases granted. No right of pre-emption, it having been already exercised. • ,

Mr George Wilson applied for a fourteen years’ lease of the Quarantine Reserve, Portobello district. To be licensed under the 61st section of the Act, subject to conditions imposed by the Inspector of and to be sold by auction, Kilda Municipal Council again complained of sand being carted from the beach, and the street lines being destroyed, and suggested that a tax be levied on each load taken. To be informed that the Council have the remedy in their own hands.
