OUR RAILWAYS.
Mr Conyers, General Manager of Railways, ap. plied to the proprietors of the Kaitangata Railway to know if they were prepared to carry grain from Kaitangata to the Sir] in g Station and they have agreed at once to make use of the line for * that purpose. Application has also been made to the General Government to open the lino for passenger traffic, and it is expected the arrangements will be completed. by the first of May next. The Company are opening np their new mine, and are pushing forward the work by working day and night. They have now about 35ft to drive in order to reach the seam which has already been proved by trial shafts to be 27ft thick, and of excellent quality. OnthePurakanni contract of the Dunedin and Moeraki Bailway the gradient, bridges, and culverts, are all completed for six miles, and the contractors are working on the first mile of their contract from the north of the Deborah Bay contract.
