Captain Worsp, of the s.s. Phoebe, has accepted the command of the Union Company’s s.s. Taupo, in place of Captain MTarlane, who goes Home by the San Francisco mail to bring out a new steamer. We congratulate the Union Company on securing the services of so popular a commander as Captain Worsp. ARRIVAL OF THE GRANADA. The Australasian Pacific mail steamer Granada arrived off the Heads e&rly this morning, but, owing to .the ebb tide, bad to come to anchor. She steamed up the harbor on the flood tide, and anchored off the railway pier at 10.30, her mails and passengers being transhipped to the pier by the p.s. Golden Age. The Granada is a handsome iron vessel of 2,572 tons register, and was built in 1873 at Wilmington, Delaware, by Messrs Hanlan and Hollingsworth. Her length ia 290 ft, her beam 40ft, and depth of hold 20ft: she has foor decks, including the hurricane deck, each of which are Bft in height. She is fitted with. compound engines, surface condensers, by Elder, of Glasgow, of the nominal power of 600 horse, capable of working up to 1800. The high-pressure cylinder is 50in, in diameter by 42in stroke, the low pressure cylinder mea. snres 20in. with the same stroke as the high-pres. sore cylinder. She has four boilers with 132 fur. 1 naces, the propeller is one of Hirch’s .patent, aud ia 16ft 4in in diameter, with a plunge of 23ft. The upper saloon is on the spar deck, and is fitted up in a most elegant' manner, the couches being covered with damask. The atat-i rooms run on either side and are well ventilated. A ladies* bath room, with dressing rooms, is also provided. She can accommodate 125 saloon passengers and 225 steerage. On her hurricane deck there is a social hall, and she is comfort, ably fitted up for steerage passengers.' She was expressly built for the San Francisco and Panama trade, and made twelve trips between those ports and one to China previous to being placed in this trade. We ore indebted to Mr G, M'Lane for the following report of her passage from Auckland, which port she left at 6.30 a.m. on the 2nd; arrived at Napier at 8,40 p.m. on the 3rd; remained there for two hours, then proceeded to Wellington, at which port she arrived at 5 p.m. on the 4th; left again at 8.28 p.m. same day, and arrived at Lyttel. ton at 12.30 p.m. on the sth; left again at 1.15 p.m., and arrived as above. Experienced fine weather along the coast. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Bluff, March s.— The Arawata cleared Port Phillip Heads at 6.15 p.m. on the 29th, and Wilson’s Promontory at 3 a.m. the following morning. Experienced west and south-west winds, with fine weather.' Arrived at the Bluff at 7 a.m. yesterday, making the passage across in four days thirteen hours. Passed the Otago 200 miles west of Bluff at noon on Saturday. 'Saloon passengers:—The Simonsen Opera Company (48), Captain Stewart, Mrsßrodieand family (3), Messrs Clark, Chamer, Park, Moole, Roundtree; twenty-two steerage, and 144 tons cargo. She sailed for Port Chalmers at 8.55 this morning. ,
