The amount of revenue received at the Customhouse on goods cleared for consumption this day was L1,3561150d.

STANDARD INSURANCE COMPANY. The fourth half-yearly meeting? of the above company was held at the Athenaeum Hall this afternoon. There were between thirty and forty members present, and Mr D. Baxter occupied the chair. The report, as already published, was read. The Chairman, in moving its adoption, referred to the progress of the company as exemplified by the balance-sheet, and said he had every reason to hope that the management would gradually change the business of the company from a small and safe one to a large and profitable one. He mentioned that the sum of LI,OOO additional would have appeared to the credit in the balance-sheet bad the mail not beeil late in arriving. The directors were anxious to make a bonus distribution to insurers, but they regretted that the present state of affairs would not allow of such being done. However, they hoped at the end of, the next half-year to be in a position to do so. Their working expenses had been light compared with those of other local companies, and he .thought the thanks of the shareholders were due to Mr Charles Reid, their secretary, for his able management. He also referred to the loss the company had suslained through the death of Mr G. F. Reid, who had been an indefatigable member from the starting of the concern.

Mr A. Sligo seconded the motion, saying he thought they should have every hope of better things in store for the future. Mr Botd moved as an amendment that instead of increasing the capital by ten per cent., as recommended in the report, that sum be devoted to a reserve fund.

The amendment lapsed for want of a seconder, and the motion was put and carried nem. con. In answer to a question, the Chairman stated that the marine losses during the past term were L 13,000. . Messrs John Reid, of Comer Bush, and "William Royse were elected directors; Mr C. Begg re-elected auditor; and a vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
