DEPUTATION.

This morning a deputation consisting of Mes.-r * E. C. Strode, T lb t, Campbell, Jackson, R ss; M tchell, i.nd Ancle: s n, waited up m the Super.n e dent end iresenecl the following memorial, wh'ch fully explans the subject of rhe deputa’io'. : The humble petition of the undersigned, being householders resident in the townships of Maori Hill, Kensington, Nevada,, Melrose, Dinden, and Anderson, and the districts’immediately adjacent thereto, sl *weth—(l.) That the above-named townships are distant not more than two miles from a common centre. (2.) That the said townships are at present included in the road districts of the Waikari Road Board and the Roslyn Road Board. (3.) That your petitioners comprise a majority of the resident householders in the said townships and the district between and around the same. (4.) That your petitioners are desirous of being formed into aMunicipalityunder the name of the Corporation of Cranmore, under the provisions of the .Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance, 1865, and the other Ordinances amending the same. Your petitioners therefore pray that your Honor will extend the provisions of the Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance. 1865, or such portions of the said Ordinance and the Ordinances amending the same as your Honor may see fit, to the district comprising the said townships, &c. Mr A. Burns, M.H.R., who introduced the deputation, explained that the petitioners complained of the treatment they had received from the Waikari and Roslyn Road Boards. They had not got a fair share of the rates expended in their par’s of the district. Having, made icmonstr nee without avail ihey had taken the present course, thinking they could manage tbe ; r own affairs a little better; and that it was advisable to have a mun cipality declared. His Honor : How many Ro„d Boards does it affect ? Mr Strode : Only Roslyn and Waikari. Hrs Honor : What number of householders do you suppose there is in M ep oposeddistrict? Mr Strode : There are 143 signatures to the pe iti- n. Th s- are a majorby of the householders iu the district. His Honok : A e you aware whether the Ro-d Boards ar. at 11 iu debt? Mr Strode replied that he did not believe there was any d bt. His Honor: That makes the matter much less com; licated. So far as I .am concerned, I shall be happy to give effect to your wishes. It is a ste «in the right direction ; and the more of these municipalities we have the better. Is anvbody oi po-imr it? Mr Strode : We have heard of no one opposing it at present. His Honor said if it was found the matter was oil in order the municipality would be gazetted in due time. Mr Burns, before the deputation withdrew, reminded his Honor that the road boards’ financial year expired in June; therefore it was necessary to push en the matter as quickly as possible.
