PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Port Chalmers Town Council last evening was attended by the Mayor, Crs. Reid, M'Kinlay. M'Gregor, Menelaws, Middleditch, and Miller. Correspondence was read from Messv Ho worth Hud Hvdgkins informing the Council that Messrs Perry had withdrawn tkeir offer ol February Inst relative to the piece of land numbeied 24 in the book of reference of the Port Chalmers Waterworks ; from Mi Austin, asking the Council for & settlement of L2O for right of road now being used by the Corporation, the same being leased by him from Messrs Perry. From Messrs Howorth and Hodgkins, on behalf of Messrs Perry, in reference to treepam on their land at Sawyer’s

Bay by persons in the employ of the Corpora* tion. These letters were referred to the Corporation Solicitor. From Messrs Vilen and King street, for permission to blast rook fronting Graving Dock. Granted, subject *lo the usual conditions From Mr Elder, on behalf if the comm ttee of the Port Chalmers Grammar School, dtawing attention to the state of Ajax road, and suggesting that'a deputation be appointed by the Corporation together with one or two members of the School Committee to wait upon the Government with a view of obtaining the cutting of the road in front of the new school, the work to be done by the prisoners at present at work on the ground and the Corporation to pay for the cartage. The Mayor and Cr. Miller were appointed to represent the Council, and a sum not to exceed LSO voted for cartage. It was resolved that the amount of rates be fixed at next meeting ; that the clerk should ascertain the cost of a fire bell or gong, and that fresh tenders be called for quarrying and breaking metal, and that the baths committee bring up a report on the matter of baths at next meeting.
