ELECTORAL NOTES.

Mr Fulhert Archer, of Miles, Archer, and Co., merchants, Timaru, has been asked by some of the electors to stand for Geraldine, but positively declined.

Our Tapanui correspondent telegraphs that Mr John M'Kellar, of Tapanui Station, and Captain M'Kenzie will most likely contest the seat for Waikaia at the coming election. Another candidate is announced for the Coleridge (Mr Bluett’s) seat. This makes seven candidates for the same seat. Mr Josiah Birch, an influential Kaiapoi merchant, is likely to oppose Mr J. Lvano Brown for Ashley. The Hon. C. C. Bowen and his deponent, Mr Joseph Beswick, are busy canvassing the Kaiapoi district. The election of the former is considered safe.

Mr W. n, Pilliett, who is opposing Mr Montgomery for the Akaroa seat in the Assembly, addressed the electors on Saturday night. He said he was in favor of the abolition of the Provinces ; but if the terms were not favorable to Canterbury he would go in for the financial separation of the two islands, wish a Federal Government at \V ellington. A vote of confidence in him was unanimously passed.

The ‘ Mail’ says there is little stir, however, in the Wakatip district at present. Mr C. 0. Boyes to whom a requisition was lately got up, positively states that he cannot afford to spare the time that would be required to properly represent the Wakatip, Mr Macassey’s name has been mentioned, but with no authority, and so has Air Shepherd’s. Mr Pyke is rarely, if ever, spoken about. Mr H. P. Maoklin has been mentioned as coming forward as a Good Templar advocate, but we have no reliable authority for the fact. Mr Wanders is pursuing a quiet, but active, private canvass. At the Arrow it is reported that Mr William Birth, who on a former occasion was requisitioned to stand for the General Assembly, but who retired before the day of polling, will again come forward.
