It is rumored that Messrs Gisborne, "Walter Johnston, Halcorabe, Buller, and Major M'Barnett will be candidates for the Manawatu seat. A requisition asking Sir Julius Vogel to stand for "Wanganui lias just been started. It is rumoied that Mr Buller has abandoned all idea of standing for Wanganui. At Greymouth, a requisition in being numerously sigued, inviting Sii Julius Vogel to allow himself to be nominated as candidate to represent Grey Valley next Parliament. It is intended to canvass the whole district for signatures. -

Mr Teßcbemaker, M.P.C., has consented to ntand for Glad-tone, in the pl;»ce of Mr G. B. Parker. He advoctes Abolition. Heislilcely to be opposed by Mr James Bruce, a sawmiller at Waimate—a very old settler, who would represent tho farming and freeholding interests, as against the squatters. Mr Btuce is also an Abolitionist. Mr Stafford is sure to be returned without opposition for Timaru For (Jeraldine, Mr Wakefield and Dr llayiier areunderstood to be canditates, but neither has issued ad'hessu.". Mr Wakefield is a strong Abolitionist Dr Itayner, an old settler at Tetnuka, who b.is for mmy years been a member of the Provincial Council and the Boar.) of Works, is understood to be a Provincialist.

In consequence of his intention to pay a visit to Englan.i, Sir Francis Bell has intimated his inability to offer himself as a candidate for the representation of Mat.iura in- the next Parliament. Mr W. H. Calder, who is out for the seat, i> a, thoroughgoing Abolitionist, and commands the confidence of all classes in the locality. The Southland ' Times ' says there is l'ttle doubt he will secure the seat against any opposition.
