RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, August 17. (Before T. A. Mansford, Esp, R.M. John Gendafe and another v. J. Brogden and Sons.—Claim, L 63 19s 6d, value of a quantity of stone quarried by plaintiffs for defendants. Mr Joyce appeared for plaintiffs, and the defendants were represented by their agent, Mr Dunbar, who objected to the claim as being excessive, and said the stone was not cut according to specification.—After hearing evidence on both sides, his Worship reserved judgment for one week. In the following cases against William Strachan, the contractor for a section of the Dunedin and Moeraki railway, judgment was given for the plaintiffs, with costs:—Lee, L 3 7s 7d; Border, L 45; Cormack, L 4 5; Quinn, Ll9 2s 3d; Symonds, L 36 ; Moyle, Jenkins, L 3 6; Baird, L 35 ; Bruce, Ll9 6s. Wednesday, 18th August. Drunkenness. Adam Alladale, charged with being drunk on the railway platform, was ordered to pay a fine of ss, or in default) twenty-fours’ imprisonment.
