PEDESTRIANISM.
100 MILES IN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS
F. Wain started punctually at five o’clock last evening, going off at a good pace and completing twenty-five miles in 4hrs. 59min. Here he bad a half-hour’s spell and some food, and recommenced his task, quite fresh. Fifty miles were covered at. 3,46 this morning, and Wain had a rest for three-quarters of an hour. Another start was then made and seventy-five miles was put up at 10,3 a.m,; the pedestrian then taking another three-quarter of an hour’s spell. Wain now began to look a little worn, but pluckily kept to his work, and at seven minutes to two o’clock this afternoon had walked eighty-eight miles. He then (gradually increased his sjieed, and completed the 100 miles at 4.44 p.m., thus winning the stakes—Lso a-side—with 10 minutes to spare. This feat beats Edwards’s time by 11 minutes and Scott’s time by 9$ minutes. He was loudly cheered at the conclusion.
